About Capoeira Malês

Capoeira Malês, led by Mestre Curisco, has played a significant role in the history of capoeira in Seattle, Washington and other areas in the United States. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. It originated in the 16th century when enslaved Africans were brought to Brazil.

Mestre Curisco, whose real name is Alair Macedo, is a renowned capoeirista and mestre (master) who has dedicated his life to the practice and promotion of Capoeira. He was born in Ipatinga Minas Gerais, Brazil, which is considered the birthplace of capoeira, and began his capoeira journey at a young age.

In the early 1990s, Mestre Curisco relocated to Seattle and established Capoeira Males Seattle. His goal was to spread the art of capoeira in the United States. Mestre Curisco's passion for capoeira and his dedication to teaching and training attracted a diverse community of students and practitioners.

Under Mestre Curisco's guidance, Capoeira Malês DMV is now offering classes in the Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas. Capoeira Malês DMV has became a hub for capoeira enthusiasts, offering classes, workshops, and performances. The group offers classes of all levels and all ages.
